No matter the size of the grants portfolio a grants manager is responsible for, one of the largest challenges is learning how to balance the granular details, or "being in the weeds," with keeping an eye on the bigger picture of long-term grants planning. Both solo grants managers and those with small teams will need to understand time management, engaging strategic buy-in from relevant partners, and how to see each grant as a stepping stone in the larger picture of their organization or municipality. Essentially, being a successful solo grants manager means learning how to keep dozens of plates spinning at one time.

Learning Objectives:

  • How to apply relevant, easily-implemented time management and prioritization strategies.

  • Value of engaging strategic partnerships to help delegate certain responsibilities and get help when needed.

  • The importance of understanding the big picture and how each grant is a crucial stepping stone to accomplishing a much larger goal.
